A wave or mixed reactions inundated the social media, following Nigeria’s President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, recent shaking hands with women, with many Muslim fundamentalists describing his actions as “Un-Islamic.”
Simonateba reported that some Islamic fundamentalist are of the opinion that Buhari, should not be seen shaking hands with women, making emphasis on the married ones.

If we recall, the last public handshake Buhari was involved in with a woman took place on Friday, May 15, during the wedding of the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole. Buhari was photographed shaking the hand of Oshiomole’s bride, Iara Forte.
Lending credence with pictures of the President-elect shaking the hands of several other women at different times in his recent public appearances, the critics took to Facebook to vent their anger.
One posted: “The wave of un-Islamic handshakes continues,” while another Islamic fundamentalist said: “Un-Islamic handshakes galore.”
In the conservative predominantly Muslim Northern Nigerian, shaking hands with a married woman can lead to serious repercussions, especially in states that practice Sharia law.
